Nauvoo the Beautiful

As we drove across the Mississippi River in our nice warm car we couldn't help but think about the early Saints. The sun is out but the wind is blowing and it is a biting cold. We had to dig out our coats, gloves and even bought a knit hat (for 25 cents) to try to keep warm. We had reserved a place on the 6 p.m. session and were there early enough to do some initiatories and were invited to be the witness couple on the session. It's a beautiful temple. Today we went over to Carthage Jail, another very sacred place. The Church has some wonderful films for each of these visitor centers. We will be here in Nauvoo for another day. We did go down and get ourselves a brick from the brick yard.

Courtney, Kaylee, Mallorie & Tyler, the visitors center has a Christus just like the one on Temple Square. We loved listening to the presentation. An Elder Smith, who is in a wheel chair and serving a 3 year mission from his home, showed it to us. It was very special. I know you remember walking up the long ramp at the SL Visitors Center.

Sounds like you are having a good time. Tyler wants to know what kind of brick you got from the brickyard. We love you.

Tyler also wants to know if you went inside Carthage Jail.

This is so wonderful to know what you are doing. We can almost live it with you. Since we have been to these places it is easy to see it in our mind's eye. Thank you and God bless you in your/His work.

This is a great way to stay in touch with you. Thanks for setting it up! We leave in the morning for our Youth Pioneer Trek and will be thinking of you as you begin your mission in Palmyra. Church History is so wonderful isn't it?
Love to you both,
Debi Lassen

We miss you both a lot. But, it sure helps to read your journal entries and see your photos. We're glad that you are having a great time in the temple. We can't wait till we get to serve a mission as a couple. We hope the weather warms up enough for you.

I love the Nauvoo Temple. 2 couples in my ancestry received their endowments and were sealed in the Nauvoo Temple before heading west. I did initiatories there one morning as soon as it opened. It was awesome to walk around the temple, imagining the early saints. I love the statue of Joseph and Hyrum on horses outside the temple. Love your journal. Thanks for sharing.
