September 2 -9, 2019

Happy 76 Birthday Mar Jean!! It was a lovely day. I heard from many family and friends which was wonderful. Paul went to Koneohe early to get the car checked. When he returned Kaylee and I went to Pearl Harbor where we were able to get tickets within 20 minutes. We were able to take the boat out and get off and see the monumenet. Upon return we walked thru the museums. Kaylee enoyed it. Upon return we picked up Paul and Mallorie and went to lunch at Chili's and then went to Ala Mauana Mall where we checked out the Tesler, Hilo attie and Barns and Noble. Later we left the girls and went home.

This week we are on 9:30 - 3:30 and have started to say goodbye to everyone. Thursdy evening we helped out at the Visitor Center so the senior missionaries could get out together. We had a quiet night with the Sister missionaries. We took the two at the end to McDonalds for dinner.

Wednesday we went back down toWaikiki and picked up the Richard and Janet Thorpe, oru replacements from Sandy. We got them settled into the condo and took off with the girls to wait for their flight at 10:30 pm. They got off and we went on home. We started our final packing trying to get ready to leave our wonderful mission.

August 26 - September 1, 2019

Who would believe we have three weeks left and they are flying by. We have had a great time with Kaylee and Mallorie. So happy they could come and visit. They are a delight.
Sunday we went to Laie 1st Ward. we stopped at the visitor center to look around. They just about have the new display of the temple ready to install. We then did our Just Serve. Paul dropped us off at Leslie's and we helped her change her bed and carry out her donations for the homeless. She is the most generous person I know.

Monday we went to Sharks Cove snorkeling for about 3 hours, then to Waimea Falls where they jumped off the rock then to the Dole Plantation where we walked around and learned how to cut a pineapple as well as how to pick one out. All the eyes top to bottom should be the same size, they should nto be soft and not black on the bottom. We also learned that you don't cut the top off, you twist it off and then you can put it in water for a few days until a root starts and then plant it. Eighteen months to two years alter you will ahve a pineapple. I'm trying it with my last pineapple. Shoudl have started it at the beginning of this mission and it woudl be ready to eat upon going home.

This week we are on 3 - 9 pm shift so it has worked out well with the girls. I also started passing out my little gifts to the coordinators and mentors and saying a few goodbyes.

Wednesday morning we tried the swap meet at the stadium once again and had a great time. Got some good buys as usual. Tje girls went canoeing with Pastor Sage that evening and had a great time. They were able to go out several times with different groups.

Friday morning Paul drove us out to Chinaman's hat and the three of us walked out. They climbed to the top and then we came back. From there we went to the Macadamia Nut Ranch and went on their tour. Paul drove into Koneohe to see if he could get the car checked but ended up visiting erome Pollard.

Saturday after the temple we came down to the condo in Waikiki and have been having a great time. went to Kahala Ward in Waikiki where we met many ordinance workers we know from the temple. We were each able to bear our testimonies for the last time on Hawaii soil. It has been a great privilege to serve here. We love the people.

Monday I took the girls to Sharks Cove, Waimea Falls where they jumped off the rock.

August 19 - , 2019

Last Sunday was a busy day. We went to our Ward at 9:30 and then at 1:30 I took Paul to Sunset Beach YSA Branch where he was speaking with the HC. It was a small group but good. Elder Sants said they all perked up when he said he joined the church at 46. He always does a great job. I left him and went to do "Just Serve" at Kualoa Ranch. No problems there. I stopped at Leslie's first and gathered some things for the homeless. She is such a kind loving person, always thinking of others. I think she buys most of this stuff to give away. After dropping off the food I returned home to find that Paul wanted to return to the Branch, he had caught a ride home with the HC, Elder Webb. We went back and sat in on their SS lesson.

It was also Kaylee's homecoming talk in Jerome 3rd Ward. She had a nice support group from the family. Kory, Katie and family and Kelly, Rob and family all made it along with Debbie, Mike, Staci, Adam, Mason, Kevin and Johanna and I'm sure many others. Everyone said she did well. They had three youth speakers also who had been on Moroni's Quest, Mallorie was one of them. Kaylee said she, Kaylee, took about 15 minutes.

Monday night at FHE Elder Hopkinson gave us a presentation on places and things to do on Oahu. we need the link before Kaylee and Mallorie leave. Wednesday Emily covered for me on the 11 o'clock session and I went to the airport to pick up the girls. From their we went to Diamond Head where they climbed, we had to go change and get some food first. We tried a Korean BBQ. From there we drove home by way of Koneohe.

Friday the girls came to the temple and that afternoon we all went to the PCC and spent the afternoona nd evening there. They were sold out of the luau so we skipped. The night show "Ha" was excellent especially the fire dancers.

Saturday we were off the temple so planned to go to the swap meet. Got there and found out there was a game that day so NO swapmeet so we headed for KoKo Trail where the girls climbed the 1000 railroad ties to the top of the hill and then on to Hanuama Bay for snorkeling. They enjoyed that and then home.

Another week has gone by and only three weeks left here in Hawaii. It has been a wonderful mission. Paul has been working on his FHE Aloha Oe. I'm still thinking.

Robbie just celebrated his 16th birthday with a party at Kory and Katie's pool. Sounds like it was a success. Robbie had 13 friends, Mercedes brought 7 of her friends and Josh had a bunch of his friends, so a good time had by all.

We love our family. We feel so very blessed. God has been so very good to us. We know He lives and loves us and wants us to return to His heavenly home. May we all continue to work toward that great end.

Great serving with you spiritual giants. Thank you for noticing my imperfections and helping me correct them. You have helped me to become a better person, a better missionary, and especially to help me prepare for our next mission. Savior taught D&C 95:1-Whom I love I also chasten. I am grateful for His love.

I must never forget that I am a child of God. I love Him and I know that He loves me. I first learned this truth when I was baptized in Camarillo CA when I was 46 years old. My wife and I were married 18 years before I became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I had some fears and concerns but now those are my biggest blessings. Tithing, callings, church for 3 hours, word of wisdom.

We have now tithed our age having served 6 missions. New York temple, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia CES mission, Hong Kong temple, MLS in Salt Lake City South mission, Manhattan temple, and Laie Hawaii temple. We also started our paper work for our next mission. Summit 9 months before mission.

Mosiah 2:17-That ye may learn that when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God. Admire your service in your various capacities and how you have touched the young people on your mission. We see your influence with the students that you serve with in the temple as they participate as patrons and ordinance workers.

We have been blessed to have volunteered and shared in many various areas. Just serve has blessed us as we have blessed Pastor Virgil and Pastor He will take you for a free canoe ride. Visitors center serving with the young sisters. I-Work. Early morning seminary priesthood. Clean temple during shut down. BYUI women’s luncheon. Visited wards on fast Sunday.

We love each one of you and thank you for loving us. Most important person to thank is my sweet wife. Elder Andersen, spoke at a BYU I devotional in 2017. We were married in 1971. She must have been there. He encouraged the listeners to not be afraid to take a chance with someone who might not be an obvious choice. We look deeper and farther into who they are and who they will become. Thank you for helping me become your eternal companion. I love you.

Nephi 1:1- he was highly favored of the Lord. 1 Nephi17:35-righteous, Alma 48:20-humble. 1 Nephi 3:6-Not murmur. Mosiah 10:13-more faithful in keeping the commandments for the Lord heard his prayers and answered them. Alma 13:23-We are thus highly favored for we have these glad tidings declared unto us. We will cherish the eternal friends we have met. May Heavenly Father continue to bless each one of us with His choicest blessings as we continue to learn and do His will.

Aug 12 - 18, 2019

Monday we were invited to lunch by Gerry and Ben Nihipali. They took us to Turtle Bay Lei Lei's where we had chicken and they had a veggie burger. They are the most wonderful people. They were in the tempe presidency when we first arrived and had served three years in the Kona Temple presidency before that. They now serve in the temple as baptistry mentor and she is a mentor on one of the shifts and serves in the office. We have loved them.

At FHE the Farnsworths had their Aloha OE. Sister Oram announced that all the talks for these Aloha Oe's would now be 5-7 minutes each. Sister Farnsworth said "sorry we already had this put together when this change was made. They did a great job with pictures. They had quite a diverse mission. They started out as Hale parents then moved to BYUH where they did many wonderful things. On the 9th when we have our Aloha oe' there are four couples leaving so they had to do something or we would be there all night.

This week we worked 7-1pm. It was a good week. This is also the day Kaylee arrived home from the London Mission. She was greeted by her family. Sorry we were not there.

I went to Peggy Hopkinson's to make three leis for the kids for graduation. She has been so generous with her time and talents. They will be going back to American Fork. Found out that their dentist is who Courtney works for in SL.

Thursday evening I met with Sister Reisman, she is an organist at the temple, and she showed me how to make scrubbies and we also did a little FHistory since she was working at the FHC. Paul is really into the ordinance ready app which brings up names for us. We usually try to hit it hard the first of the week getting all the ordinances done. I still have about 8 endowments from Darlene.

On fast Sunday we met this family in Milliani. Friday they came to the temple to do baptisms for the new convert's father. They remembered us from our visit on Fast Sunday when we both bore our testimonies and then taked to them afterwards. So rewarding. The Sister missionaries came with them.

Saturday we had to switch with Broadbents because they had us scheduled for a late wedding and we also did the 9 am session which had 23 sisters and 16 brothers on it. These are always fun to do.
We left the temple and went to Kualoa Ranch to volunteer for the Spartan run. If we each volunteered Kimberly could get free races so off we went. Ended up handing out banannas and water at the finish line. We were under a tent and Paul found chairs for us so it was a pretty good job except we were there for 9 hours. She should get the code vouchers for the race. It was interesting. Can't figure out why people like to do this but they do. There were over 2000 of them. The Beast was the run, 13 miles and 34 obstacles. The earliest time was just under three hours and the longest 7-8 hours. Some people actually did the course twice.

HIS TALK ON SUNDAY, AUGUST 18, 2019 YSA SUNSET BRANCH

"When we want to talk to God we pray and when we want God to talk to us we read His scriptures.John 5:39-Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life; and they are which testify of me.

God created the earth and teaches us in the book of Genesis in the old testament. The first five days God saw that it was good. After God created man in his own image, male and female God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. Very good after female.

The crowning event recorded in the Book of Mormon is the personal ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ soon after his resurrection. It puts forth the doctrines of the gospel, outlines the plan of salvation, and tells men and women what they must do to gain peace in this life and eternal salvation in the life to come. The Savior’s name appears on the average once every 1.7 verses. The Book of Mormon teaches the divine mission of Jesus Christ. Mission president mark in red the Savior’s reference. Our mission president asked us to read the Book of Mormon 30 minutes each day.

D&C 33:16-And the Book of Mormon and the holy scriptures are given of me for your instruction; and the power of my Spirit quickeneth all things.

The scriptures were so important to Lehi that he sent his sons back to Jerusalem to obtain the plates of brass.

I also want you to know the Lehi sent them to get the scriptures before they were sent back to Jerusalem to get Ishmael and his daughters so Lehi’s sons would have wives.

3 Nephi 23:1-Jesus approves the words of Isaiah. I say unto you that ye ought to search these things. Yea, a commandment I give unto you that ye search these things diligently and he commanded them that they should teach the things which he had expounded unto them.

Elder Bednar taught us in the last conference. The Savior has given us a pattern to follow as we study the scriptures. We hear the word, we ponder upon its meaning, we ask our Heavenly Father to help us understand, and then our minds and hearts are prepared to receive the promised blessings. It is allowing the word to move from our minds to our hearts. The Spirit bears witness to our hearts as we prayerfully seek to know the things of our Heavenly Father.

Our personal responsibility is to learn what we should learn, to live as we know we should live, and to become who the Master would have us become. And our homes are the ultimate setting for learning, living, and becoming.

The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that each Latter-day Saint needs to understand for himself or herself the designs and purposes of God in our lives.

I must never forget that I am a Child of God. I love him and I know that He loves me.

I first learned this truth when I was baptized in Camarillo Ca when I was 46 years old. I did not like to read so I figured that would be the end of it.

I learned early to liken my self to the scriptures. 1Nephi 19:23- I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning.

I read about the hard hearted and stiff-necked people. Do not procrastinate the day of your repentance. Then I read some more scriptures.

D&C 39:10-Arise and be baptized and wash away your sins and you shall receive my spirit and a blessing so great as you never have known.

Ezekiel 36:36-A new heart also will I give you and a new spirit will I put within you and I will take the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you and ye shall keep my judgments and do them. The key work is do them.

After my baptism I wrote in my scriptures. I must never forget that I am a Child of God. I love Him and I know that He loves me. Repeat in your mind.

My wife wrote a letter to President Ezra Taft Benson, the president of the Church. He responded. I have read through tear dimmed eyes your sweet letter telling of your husband’s decision to prayerfully read the Book of Mormon. May Heavenly Father bless you and your family with His choicest blessings as you continue to learn and do His will.

President Russell M. Nelson has counseled us: “There is much more to come. … Eat your vitamin pills. Get your rest. It’s going to be exciting.

President Nelson also counseled us regarding the Book of Mormon. My dear brothers and sisters, I testify that the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God. It contains the answers to life’s most compelling questions. It teaches the doctrine of Christ.⁵ The full power of the gospel of Jesus Christ is contained in the Book of Mormon. Period.

My dear brothers and sisters, I promise that as you prayerfully study the Book of Mormon every day, you will make better decisions—every day. I promise that as you ponder what you study, the windows of heaven will open, and you will receive answers to your own questions and direction for your own life. I promise that as you daily immerse yourself in the Book of Mormon, you can be immunized against the evils of the day.

We must feel it so deeply that we would never want to live even one day without it. I might paraphrase President Brigham Young in saying, “I wish I had the voice of seven thunders to wake up the people to the truth and power of the Book of Mormon. This is the book that will help to prepare the world for the Second Coming of the Lord.

I also make a promise to you as you read the Book of Mormon on a daily basis, the spirit of the Lord will touch your heart and you can learn what Nephi learned in

1 Nephi 1:1-I Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days; nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days.

There are at least 17 verses that refer to being favored or highly favored of the Lord that I have found. They will touch your heart if you find them yourself. Will share

1 Nephi 17:35-He that is righteous is favored of God.

1 Nephi 3:6-Therefore go my son and thou shalt be favored of the Lord, because thou hast not murmured.

Alma 48:20-The people did humble themselves insomuch they were highly favored of the Lord.

Mosiah 10:13-Nephi was more faithful in keeping the commandments of the Lord; therefore, he was favored of the Lord, for the Lord heard his prayers and answered them.

Alma 13:23-We are thus highly favored for we have these glad tidings declared unto us.

President Russell M. Nelson-My dear brothers and sisters, construction of these temples may not change your life, but your time in the temple surely will. In that spirit, I bless you to identify those things you can set aside so you can spend more time in the temple.

While he was talking I went and did our "Just Serve" assignment. I stopped at Leslie's first and picked up some things she had for the homeless, then the food and then dropped them both off at Pastor Virgil's. When I got home Paul wanted to go back to SS at the YSA so off we went. On our way home we stopped to visit with the Hunts. They have settled in nicely. Carole Ann brought us over some peanut buttom blossoms and then later banana bread. She keeps us stocked with goodies. We invited them over to try out the mat on our bed and they like it so we will give it to them before we go home.

Today Kaylee gave her homecoming. All the kids and cousins were present. We are so happy that they love and support each other. Good training from my parents and Paul's parents who were always so supportive. They say she did great, which I am sure she did. We are very blessed. The Lord has been so very good to us. We love the Lord and His gospel.

Aug 5 - 11, 2019

On Fast Sunday we went to Milliani to the 1st and 2nd Wards. We saw many people we knew from the temple, ordinance workers and patrons. We were both able to bear our testimonies of the Savior Jesus Christ and His great atonement. It is always wonderful to meet these wonderful people in their own Wards. They have a wonderful Stake President. The last time we went to visit these wards it was Stake Conference and we heard him speak then. The ward we attended was his home ward.

That evening was Break the Fast and that is always fun to attend. Always lots of good food and plenty of company. There were quite a few guests attending. The Wens returned to Waikiki and were headed back to HK.

We were on 3 - 9 pm this week. We went in early on Tuesday and were able to get a lot of the work done that Paul had printed out for both of us. It wasn't too hard. I wasn't sure we would get all our sealings done but we did. It's been a wonderful focus, especially for Paul. He is so happy to be doing his own family. This ordinance ready has got him going. Now he is printing out women under Kimberly's login. I keep telling him I need to finish the ones I have from Darlene and Kimberly before I get a lot more, endowments that is. I just need a few sister missionaries to come to the temple and it would be done.

Friday on the 4 pm session we had four wheelchairs. The Lau's were there with his two children, Sister Watanabi (101), and Shuree Munson. It was a nice session, 23 sisters and 9 brothers. I think we have one more week of this shift before we leave.

Elder Christofferson, Elders Kearnon and Pierson of the Seventy were visiting. They did a youth fireside on Friday night, a meeting with young missionaries Saturday day and a YSA/Married fireside Saturday night. We were invited to this fireside.

President Pierson, Area President, spoke about strengthen your faith and trust Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father gives light through the Holy Ghost in our own language, we get understanding from the Holy Ghost. Heavenly Father loves us. We knew and loved Heavenly Father, His Son. The HG is light and testifies of things that are true. Constantly poray "always have the Spirit with us.:
Satan--disstraction, desinsitivity, disobedient, deceive us. pray more fervently for the Holy Ghost.

Elder Kearon: gifts from our Father. Isai 55: "your thought are not my thoughts" are you praying about the things you are most worried about or are you just worrying about them?

Elder Christofferson: act on your promptings, opportunity and obligation 2Ne 26:11, D&C 1:32-33. It is time to act, REPENT, Be Better Do Better, Pres. Nelson. Repent is an opportunity to change. Sacrament--atonement of Jesus Christ. Prepare repentance and plead for help. Forgiveness--repentance brings relief. Couple--spend time together, prayer gratitude for individeual, blessings--experience of gratitude, bring the spirit, opportunity for extended prayers, listen as well as speak; sit with the Lord, if He warns you, you need to act.

What matters most to you? Scripture story: Amman missionary Alma 20:23 Arron teaching King Limhi. While at the temple I had a glimps of eternity. A man dragging a heavy suitcase along a dirt road. Occasionally he would stop and take something out of it and then continue on. When he could go no further he would stop again and take something else out until he reached his destination. What do we have in our suitcase. What matters most is what takes longest. Blessing poromised, obey covenant path. primise to identify what you can set aside to go to the temple.

Coming back to Him is a process every day. I believe HF is most thrilled by His ability to be merciful.

We spent the rest of the day doing "Just Sere" and visiting Leslie who had many things for the homeless which we dropped off and then we came home and listened to the scriptures, did our Come Follow Me and read and decided what we could take out of our suitcases.

I'm going to try to stop snapping at Grandpa when he does not do things fast enough or cannot hear me. he is going to start wearing clothes around the house instead of just his garments. Not big but a start. Also no tv on Sunday except for Living Scriptures.

We love our family and the gospel of Jesus Christ and our Savior and His Father. We are blessed. I think I one thing I worry about most and pray for is that my posterity, grandchildren and children and great grandchildren will remain true to the Gospel and have firm testimonies of the Savior and His ability to bring us home again.
